The government of Armenia has officially endorsed a draft bill to begin the country’s EU accession process, a process that will now be up for discussion of the Parliament of Armenia.
The Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum (EaP CSF) welcomes this new step for Armenia, including EaP CSF Steering Committee Member and National Facilitator, Edgar Khachatryan, who is also a member of the Platform of Democratic Forces, which unites three political parties and representatives of Armenia’s civil society:
“Armenia has taken a historical step towards European Union membership. I am confident that this decision reflects Armenia’s steadfast commitment to democracy, the rule of law, and shared European values.
I am honored to have been part of the process that initiated this draft bill. Our efforts, including the ‘EUROVOTE’ petition campaign, were driven by a shared vision for Armenia’s future within the European family.
Looking ahead, setting a comprehensive roadmap for EU accession will be vital. We stand ready to support and contribute to its development and implementation.
This milestone is not just a political decision. It is a collective achievement and a bold step toward a stronger, united European future for Armenia.”
