The Armenian National Platform of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum condemns the brutal actions of the Georgian authorities against peaceful protesters in Georgia and expresses its support for the people and civil society of Georgia in their struggle for democracy and European integration
December 03, 2024, Yerevan, Armenia
With deep concern and sorrow, we are observing the violent scenes in brotherly Georgia over recent days, where the authorities have employed brutal and disproportionate force, including tear gas, water cannons, and incessant violence, against peaceful gatherings. In the past few days, many civilians, students, young people, and media representatives have been injured as a result of the disproportionate force used by the police and security forces to disperse spontaneous peaceful protests.
We condemn such pressures on people’s right to freely express their will, hold peaceful gatherings, and participate in democratic processes. We call on the authorities of Georgia and security forces to refrain from actions that could lead to irreversible tragic consequences. Furthermore, we emphasize that such undemocratic developments in neighboring Georgia will negatively impact the political situation across our entire region.
We wish a swift recovery and strength to those wounded and affected by the disproportionate use of force by the police during the recent peaceful civil disobedience actions. The Armenian National Platform of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum, along with the organizations united within it, expresses our firm solidarity and support to the Georgian National Platform of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum and to all organizations and individuals who are fighting for democracy, freedom, human rights, and the steadfastness of Georgia’s unshakeable European path, as chosen by its people and enshrined in its Constitution and fundamental laws.
